Histogenesis of central airway adenocarcinoma
several aspects of the histogenesis of invasive adenocarcinoma
are discussed below bac. but, it should
be discovered here that a minority of adenocarcinomas
is thought to arise from the bronchial gland or mucosal
epithelium. these are endobronchial or central airway lesions
that grow as plaques or polyploid lesions frequently with
preservation of the overlying epithelium. 356 histologically,
these tumors have acinar or cribriform patterns, like salivary
glandtype adenocarcinoma and occur concerning ten years
prior to adenocarcinomas of the peripheral airways. 107
tumor cells are mostly positive for lactoferrin. the frequency
of central adenocarcinoma type isn't entirely clear
since, in several cases, growth to massive size and destruction of
tissue round the sites of origin of invasive carcinoma may
result in underestimation of the true frequency of this
tumor type. these tumors don't have anyt been well characterized
on cell of origin and that it is doable that they arise from
constant central respiratory mucosa as squamous carcinoma
and massive cell carcinoma.
