Definition thoracoscopy
thoracoscopy ( video-assisted thoracoscopic
dissection vats ) on behalf of mediastinal staging has been reported
in an exceedingly limited variety of studies. five, 35–40 overall, a sensitivity of
75% and an fn rate of 7% are reported. five though,
the sensitivity varies widely ( from 37% to 100% ) without
any obvious explanation. the low results stem primarily
from the solely prospective multicenter study. thirty six so, in general,
the results of vats for staging seem to be not as good
as that of different techniques, though the slightly to which
this has been defined is limited. this can be coupled with the
reality that vats could be associated with additional discomfort than all of
the opposite mediastinal staging procedures. vats for staging
is in all probability best reserved for specific things, like in
patients with a cervical tracheostomy, or assessment of nodes
in stations five, vi, or nine if different techniques can not be used or
don't seem to be accessible.
